Shirley Miller
DIXON – Shirley M. Miller of Dixon died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Heartland Health Care, Moline.
Shirley was born April 14th in Montebello, Calif., the daughter of Honald C. and Gertrude M. (Gardner) Frandsen. She married John L. Miller on Aug. 16th in Montebello, Calif. She farmed with her husband on their beloved farm, milking cows and raising hogs and cattle, and loved every minute of it.
She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls. In her early years of marriage, she worked as a x-ray technician at KSB Hospital, Dixon. She always had an open house for her childrens' friends, loving and enjoying all of them and their activities. She was very active in the Nelson School District. She started the Mother's club and the Cub Scouts, both of Nelson. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at KSB Hospital, donating more than 6,000 hours. She belonged to Civil Air Corps during World War II and Eastern Star of Montebello, Calif. She was past president of Dixon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 12 and Dixon Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynne (Tom) Klarkowski of Moline; a son, Clark (Tammy) Miller of Tucson, Ariz.; her fiancé, Richard Longfellow of Dixon; four grandchildren, Bess (Paul) Crandall, Johnny (Jenn) Miller, Nina (Eric) Davis, and Garrett Staab; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Sean, and Nora Crandall, Laynne Mae Miller, and Hailey and Jakob Davis, all of Arizona; and adopted, extended family, Jerry, Georgann, Greg, and Michele McBride and Carol Snow, all of Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, at the funeral home with the Rev. David Finn officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls, or Dixon American Legion Auxiliary Unit 12.
Honorary casket bearers will be Bess and Paul Crandall, Johnny and Jenn Miller, Nina and Eric Davis, and Garrett Staab.
