Following an illness of only a week’s duration, Mrs. Herbert E. Siems passed away at the Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital at 1:18 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 1961. She attained the age of 55 years, 8 months and 20 days.

The body reposed in state at the Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner, until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, when services were conducted followed by Requiem Mass at SS. Cyril and Methodius’ Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Father John J. Hanacek officiated at the last rites. Burial took place in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Rosary was recited at the Buffington Chapel at 7:30 Monday evening.

Pallbearers were Clarence Huber, Paul R. Otto, victor G. Stindt, Jos. Muras and E.J. Kempe and Byron Dixon of Yoakum.

Mrs. Siems, nee Lillie A. Pavlicek, was born at Shiner February 22, 1906, daughter of Vinc and Agnes (Broz) Pavlicek. She was reared and educated at Shiner and spent her entire lifetime in this community. She was married to Herbert E. Siems December 27, 1922 in Shiner. For the past 31 years, she was closely associated with her husband in the operation of their business in Shiner.

Survivors are her husband, Herbert E. Siems, Shiner; son Forrest J. Siems; daughter-in-law, Mary V. Siems and two granddaughters, Shelly Jo and Sydney Janice, all of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Albina) Baros of Point Comfort, Mrs. Wylie (Frances) McNatt of Corpus Christi; one brother, Frank Pavlicek of Victoria; mother-in-law, Mrs. Hedwig Siems of Shiner; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents preceded her in death, the father having died in 1922 and the mother in 1947. A baby son, Floyd John, died July 23, 1927 at the age of three years. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Julia Buesing, Mrs. Carrie Heinrich, Eddie Pavlicek and John Pavlicek.

A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the last rites and the many floral tributes bespoke the love and esteem in which she was held.
