James Kinsman Jewell, 56, of 1154 South Kings Drive passed away Saturday August 10, 1968 in a local hospital. Born January 27, 1912 in Hamlet, N.C. son of the late Hattie Bowman Jewell and the late John Garfield Jewell. A veteran of WWII, he operated the Jewell Real Estate Company and presently was associated with the Jefferson Cablevision Company. Mr. Jewell was a member of the Midwood Baptist Church, Business Mens Sunday School class, The East Gate Masonic Lodge No. 692, Scottish Rite Bodies of the Carolina Consistory. (1968 Patriots Class) and the Oasis Temple of the Shrine. He was former member of the N.C. State Highway Patrol from 1929-1940, has served as an officer with the City and County Police Departments of Anson county and as Chief of City Police at Norwood for (4) four years. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Monday August 12, 1968 from the Midwood Baptist Church with Rev. Wendell G. Davis the Pastor officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at Sharon Memorial Park by the East Gate Lodge. Survivors include wife Flossie L. Jewell 3 sons James Martin Jewell, Charlotte; Harry Donald Jewell, Charlotte; Louis Garfield Jewell, Charlotte; 3 sisters Virginia Slough, Salem,Va.; Mrs. Mike Joya, Mount Pocono, Pa.; Mrs. Robert V. Keaton, Aiken, S.C.; 2 grandchildren, Ken and Kavin Jewell. An Emergent Communication will be held at the East Gate Lodge Monday Morning August 12, 1968, at 9:00 a.m. for the purpose of conducting graveside rites for Mr. Jewell. Active pallbearers will be from East Gate Lodge. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining members of the East Gate Lodge and the Business Mens Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the McEwen Funeral Home from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday evening August 11, 1968. Mr Jewell will be taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
