William Alonzo Mace was born to Harrison Glosser Mace and Nancy Jane Alphin. His brothers are Luke Prior, Simeon Edgar II, and Thomas. His step-mother is Sarah Clarisa Fletcher and step-brothers and step-sisters are Nancy Ellen Mace, twins Harlen Gilmore Mace and Harrison Glosser Mace, Jr., and Mary E. Mace.

William married Verna Lynn Fletcher some time about 1890 in Iowa. Born to them are William Tosco, Harold Alonzo, Goldie Leona, Fay, Sylvia Iola, Vernie Virgil, Purlie Myrle, Myrlie Donald, Vera Iona, Eva M. (Coughlan) and Earl Floyd.

William died by being kicked in the head by a horse while it was being shod with horseshoes.
