Carl Colvard, 79, of the Neese Community, died Thursday, August 29, 2002, of a prolonged illness.
Mr. Colvard was the son of the late David Nelms Colvard and Minnie Lee Maynard Colvard.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson, but was attending Madison Street Baptist Church in Commerce. Mr. Colvard was retired from Roper Pump Company and the Georgia Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Ann Colvard.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. David Harbin and Stuart Lang and grandson, Nick Colvard, officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Mr. Colvard is survived by his wife and companion of almost 61 years, Edna Morrow Colvard; his children, Susan and Robert Colvard, Barbara and Tom Davis and Janet and Randall Colvard, all of Hull, Betty and Jimmy Lyle, Winder, and Sandra Colvard, Jefferson; grandchildren, Durin and Jim Eberhart and Brian Davis, all of Athens, Wendy and Jimmy Chambers, Jefferson, Tammy and Ron Hester, Commerce, Julie and Russ Davis and Nick Colvard, all of Hull, and Renee and Carey Cooper, Winder; great-grandchildren, Sam Eberhart, Hunter Cooper, Mitchel Chambers, Tom Eberhart and Megan Davis; sister, Kathleen Colvard Smith; and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
"He was blessed with many friends," said family members.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
