Patricia Louise Borgesen, 61, died at 9 a.m. July 30, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation and funeral were held at Grandview Baptist Church, 1300 Columbine St. Her family wrote: "Patty heard the call of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was lovingly carried to heaven where she finally received the healing she and her loved ones had prayed for."

Patty was born July 2, 1948, in Lebanon, Ore., to Arthur E. and Mary Johnston. She moved to Ketchikan with her family in 1962. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Patty graduated from Ketchikan High School in 1966. In 1970 she graduated from Northwest Nazarene College with a degree in elementary education. Patty married David M. Borgesen on June 29, 1972. David and Patty moved to Petersburg, where they raised two daughters. Patty worked for the U.S. Forest Service for many years in Petersburg and later in Anchorage. David and Patty were faithful members for 30 years of First Baptist Church in Petersburg, where Patty taught Sunday school. She had many exciting adventures with her family in Southeast Alaska. Her husband was a commercial fisherman and the family came along during the summers. Patty was the faithful co-captain who did a great job despite dealing with seasickness. In 2004, Patty moved to Anchorage with her husband to be closer to her parents and siblings. David and Patty became active members of Grandview Baptist Church. Her family wrote: "Patty was a loving, sweet spirited, Godly woman. She was kind in every sense of the word. She had a gentle spirit and was a true friend to many. Patty loved her family unconditionally. She especially adored her grandchildren." "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:25-29

Patty is survived by her father and mother, Arthur E. and Mary Johnston of Anchorage; husband, David M. Borgesen of Wasilla; daughters, Amy (Kevin) Cook of Interlochen, Mich., and Laurel (Justin) Toso of Wasilla; beloved grandchildren, Shane Cook and Evelyn Cook of Interlochen, and Aaron Toso of Wasilla; brothers, Michael Johnston and Philip Johnston of Anchorage; sisters, Linda Streitz of Seattle and Peggy (Edward) Brown of Anchorage; nieces, Richele Johnston, Erin Streitz and Karlee (Joel) Dolphin; and nephews, Zachary Streitz and Kyle Brown. She was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Bud and Arlene Borgesen of Austin, Minn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Patricia's name to the Blood Bank of Alaska, 4000 Laurel St., Anchorage 99508, 222-5600. Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home.
