Civil War soldier. Died at Camp Relief in D.C. Married, 11 May 1959, Sarah Juliette Hawxhurst, daughter of James Oakley Hawxhurst and Julia Starkens (both buried Westbury Friends, Westbury, Nassau County, New York). Sarah's name is on Peter's monument, with no dates. She remarried, and is buried elsewhere. Peter and Sarah were also the parents of Julia E. Bertine (b. 25 Apr 1860, d. 1 Sept 1860), who is not on St. Paul's burial listings.
