Peter was a son of James Elkins & Betsey Florence.

He was named after Peter Sanborn of Deerfield, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

He was the first white child born in Cornville, Maine.

He was married 1st on 19 Feb 1818 at Vassalboro, Kennebec County, Maine to Abigail Cowen.

They had 4 children:
