☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆


Johnny Talbot, age 90 of Centerville died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.


Johnny was born March 27, 1920 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary (Barrier) Talbot. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1937 and Centerville Community College in 1940.


In 1941, Johnny married Mildred E. Swasick in Centerville, Iowa.


He received his Gold Wings from Pensacola Aviation in 1941. Johnny was a pilot during WW ll, serving on the USS Hornet, USS Wolverine, USS Sabel and the USS Bunker Hill.


Johnny helped start Talbot Lumber and would later go into agriculture sales. He loved to hunt and fish. In his earlier years, Johnny enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He was also a member of the Appanoose County Historical Society.


He is survived by two sons, John Markland Talbot of Centerville and Jim (Mary) Talbot of Webster City, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, one great granddaaughter, and a cousin Bob Greene.


He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Talbot.


Graveside funeral services with military rites will be held 10:30, Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville with Pastor Ken Mehrhoff officiating. A memorial has been established to the Wounded Warrior Project.
