Born March 17, 1942 in Henry County, Ohio, he was the son of Marion and Marylynn (Jones) Andrews. He was united in marriage to Nina Miles on September 28, 1991, and she survives. Mel was a retired employee of the former Napco Plastics Company of Napoleon, retiring in 1996 after 34 years. Mel also was the former city of Napoleon tennis champion and member of the Wauseon Health and Racquet Club for many years.
Surviving are a former wife, Sharon (Soles) Bischoff of Napoleon; his father, Liberty Center; two sons, Mark L. Andrews of Napoleon and Chad J. Andrews of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter, Tracy (Chad) Critten of Grover Hill, Ohio; brothers, Ron Andrews of Archbold and George Andrews of Scotts, Mich.; sisters, Arita (Kenny) Silveus of Liberty Center and Diane (Steve) Goldsmith of Wauseon; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marylynn; former wives, Linda (Staudenmaier) Andrews and Patty (McCowan) Andrews; and an infant daughter, Tina Marie Andrews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church in Liberty Center, with Rev. Jim Condrey officiating. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Napoleon.
