Lydia Athenee Webb McGuire, 91, of Misty Hill Circle, Blacksburg, Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 7, 2010, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, N.C. She was born on March 14, 1919, in Sullivan County, Tenn., to the late Oscar Eddie Webb and Bertha Calhoun Webb Greer. She was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church in Blacksburg, Va., and a member of Ellett Valley Ruritan Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. McGuire; her son, Eddie McGuire; a brother, Bill J. Greer; and a stepfather, Marion W. Greer. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Collom and husband, Joe, of Dallas, Ga., Carol Anderson and husband, Eddie, of Granite Falls, N.C., and Robin Shaffer and husband, Kyle, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; two sons, Mike McGuire and wife, Brenda, of Keller, Texas, and Darrell McGuire and wife, Terri, of Elliston, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Greer and wife, Janet, of Church Hill, Tenn.; a sister, Negatha Webb Peterson, of Erwin, Tenn.; and four nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. McGuire will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at North Fork Baptist Church in Ellett, Va., with the Rev. Fred Brugger and the Rev. Dennis McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mackie-High Funeral Home is serving the family. Published in Roanoke Times on June 8, 2010
