Owens was the second of seven children born to Daniel Webster and Dora (Bailey) Moose. He married (1) Dessie Georgia Ann Wagoner in 1918 and they had three children: David Levan, Gilbert Monroe and Frances. He later married (2) Pearl Crawford in 1940.

Owens Monroe Moose, 61, 303 Oakland Avenue, died at 6 a.m. today at Davis Hospital. He has been in declining health for one year and seriously ill for one month.
He was born in Iredell County on April 12, 1896, son of the late Daniel W. and Dora Bailey Moose. he was educated in the county schools and was a meat cutter.
He first married the former Dessie Wagner and to this union three children were born. They are Mrs. Gilbert W. Moriconi of Richmond, Va., David L. and Gilbert Moose, both of Ridgeway, Va. On June 2, 1941, he married to the former Mrs. pearl Crawford Sides and the following stepchildren survive; James N. Sides and Mrs. Hal Harkey, both of Albemarle, and William H. Sides and Mrs. J. E. Murdock, both of Statesville. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Charlie G. Fortner and Mrs. S. T. Taylor, both of Statesville; two brothers, Jay W. and Buster C. Moose of Statesville. There are 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at Front Street Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday by Rev. C. C. Holland. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leroy, Harry and Jack Moose, Frank and Charles Fortner and Perry Taylor.
The body will remain at Nicholson Funeral Home until taken 10 the church to lie in states for 30 minutes before the funeral. The family will gather at 303 Oakland.
