The funeral for John S. Adams, 71, of Bassett, who died June 5, 2010, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at Bassett High School. The Revs. Michael Harrison and Joe Nunley will officiate. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service.
Adams was the longtime owner/operator of Adams Grocery in Sanville. He was a veteran of the Army and a member and deacon at Orchard Drive Baptist Church.
Adams was born Jan. 6, 1939, in Martinsville to Lemly J. Adams and Dora Martin Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul Adams, Timothy Adams, Dale Adams, Carl Adams and Elwood Adams; two sisters, Joan Marie Adams and Linda Sue Adams; and a grandson, Joshua Adams.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Adams; a son, Kasim Adams of Bassett; a daughter, Tressi Sanchez of Bassett; a sister, Doris Hudson of Bassett; two brothers, Noel Adams and Daniel Adams of Bassett; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
