Edward Slater married Miss Rose Ernestine Box on 13 December 1896. The couple moved to Young County in 1898 from Erath County, Texas. The couple lived in the Red Top community. She preceded him in death.

Services for Edward Thomas Slater, 86, were held at First Methodist Church. Mr. Slater joined the Methodist Church in his childhood. He was a retired farmer and rancher.

Survived by his wife; two sons - Edward Slater and Charley Ernest "Buster" Slater; four daughters - Mrs. H.G. Milligan, Mrs. Mary Riddle, Mrs. Raymond Farmer, and Mrs. E.B. Petty; one sister - Mrs. H.P. Cole; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
