Ellis George Brooks, 76 of Sioux Rapids died, Tuesday, May 8, in his summer home in Spirit Lake
Funeral services were Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. The Rev. Judeen Johnson officiated
Casket bearers were Johnnie Gilson, Lee Halverson, Ronald Haraldson, Rodney Hatlen, Dr. R.J. Mattice and Philip Woodall
Honorary Casket bearers were Howard Beck, Kenneth Brooks, Bendix Haraldson, Floyd Jacobson, Charles Joss, Ellis McDaniel, John Nordstrum and the Rev. Floyd Olsen
Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia
The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids was in charge of arrangements
Mr. Brooks was born March 22, 1914, to George and Lilly (Diercks) Brooks in Aurelia. He attended grade school and high school in Rembrandt. He briefly attended Winona Business College before entering Buena Vista College in Ames for a year of forestry studies
He married Clara Helene Warburton on July 2, 1940 at her family home in Cherokee and they settled on the farm near Sioux Rapids where Mr. Brooks remained the rest of his life
On June 1, 1965, Mr. Brooks married Genevieve Woodall Hurless at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and his first wife
Mr. Brooks is survived by his second wife; two sons, Lynn and his wife, Marilyn and Galen, all of Frederick, Maryland; one stepson, Joe Hurless of Roswell, New Mexico; eight grandchildren and one great grandson
