Norman Elvin Walker, 65, of Wichita Falls, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in New Braunfels, Texas.

The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls with Rev. Bill Pursley officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Norman was born on March 31, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Elvin "Bear" and Mary (Adams) Walker. He was the third of four children. Norman was a member of the 1st graduating class of S.H. Rider High School in 1963. He was named Mr. Raider that Senior Year. He joined the Wichita Falls Police Department in November of 1966. That is where he found his true calling. He was a Homicide Detective, polygraph examiner, hostage negotiator, and accomplished interviewer and interrogator. His fellow officers followed his lead; he was a "Cops Cop". In 1987, he received his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Midwestern State University. During this time, in 1984, he also completed his polygraph training through Texas A&M's Academy for Polygraphic Science. He was a member of the Joseph A. Kemp Lodge #1287 AF&AM, an avid hunter, loved working out, and enjoyed visiting with his many friends. Norman never met a stranger.

While employed with WFPD, he met the love of his life, Cindy. They married on March 30, 1990. Together, they have five children; sons, Stephen Walker and wife Kym of Grandbury, Jordan Walker and wife Kerstie of El Paso, and Cody Russell and wife Dayla of Little Elm; daughters, Jody Barnett and husband Cody of Iowa Park, and Stephanie Hatton of Granbury. The light of his life and his pride and joy were his grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob Barnett, Kaygan Walker, Joshua Walker, and Tiphani Walker, and his two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Walker and wife Kathy of Coppell; sisters, Joyce Parks and husband R.C. of Garland, and Bonnie Jenkins of Austin; and his father-in-law, H.C. Johnson.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Mary Walker; and his mother-in-law, Jody Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association.
