Abraham was a farmer and a miner. He married Matilda Bond on Feb. 13, 1823 in Bardstown, Nelson Co., KY. They were founding members of First Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin Township, Johnson Co., IN and early pioneers of Brown Co., IL. Abraham left for California in 1850 with his son George and his nephew John during the Gold Rush. He died there searching for his fortune.

Abraham and Matilda's children are: Elizabeth, William, George Washington (m. Caroline Bohna), Whitman, Jackson, Matilda H., Sanford, Jacob A., John and Amanda Jane.
