"TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY
IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD"

Pastor Bernard Ellison Sr. was born on December 6, 1948 to the late Darthus and Wiley Mae Ball Ellison; he was the first of eight children born to this union. One brother, Johnel preceded him in death.

Bernard attended school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, graduating from John C. Fremont High School. Bernard always had a love for music and excelled as a musician being able to play most brass and woodwind instruments; his favorite instrument was the trumpet.

Darthus and Wiley being Christians reared Bernard and all their children, using the teaching of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bernard accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at the age of nine by Reverend Gus Giles the organizer of Good Faith Baptist Church.

In 1975, Bernard met and married the woman of his dreams and soul mate Katheryn J. Williams; only death ended 27 years of marriage. To this union, two sons were born, Bernard Jr. and Brandon. Bernard also has one daughter from a previous marriage, Renee.

In 1981, remembering his early Christian teaching and training, he and his family reunited with Good Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J. Buckley and served their until 1988.

In 1988, he joined the Mount Hope Baptist Church and later joined the New Way Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend J Lee where in 1991; he was called into the ministry. In 1993, the Lord sent Bernard a message thru Pastor B. Davis to return home to pastor Good Faith Missionary Baptist Church. After praying and praying and praying, he accepted the call to Pastor where he served faithfully until his death.

On Sunday the 7th of April 2002, the Lord saw fit to Call Bernard's soul to rest from his toil in labor in this life.

I AM FREE

Don't grieve for me, for I'm free,
I am following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard his call;
I turned my back left it all.

I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or pray.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, and these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with time of sorrow,
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now.... HE SET ME FREE!
