Cassandra was born to Thomas Waddle Ross & Ottilla Belle Nokes Ross in 1901. It is believed her family participated in one of the Oklahoma Land Runs in 1895, settling in Whitehorse, OK. Thomas and Ottilla moved their young family to southern Missouri a few years later, intending to have an apple orchard and a better life for their growing family. October 29, 1919, when Cassie was 18, she married Melvin David Fisher in Laclede, MO and they lived with his parents for a while (see 1920 Census). Cassie & Melvin welcomed a son, Melvin Ross "Bobbie" Fisher, Feb 15, 1921. When Bobbie was 20 months old, he was playing in the wash water with his mother nearby. Later that evening he became very ill. They did everything they could but lost little Bobbie shortly after, on November 3, 1922. Bobbie was laid to rest in the peaceful New Hope Cemetery near Long Lane, MO. Cassie gave birth to a daughter, Eula Alvira, on December 15, 1922. Another daughter, Patricia Belle, was born October 30, 1924. The young family moved to Breen, Colorado and continue to grow. A son, David Joel, was born March 21, 1926 and finally another daughter, Olela Faye, on March 21, 1927. At some point Cassie's brother, Robert Albert, came to stay with them a while looking for work. Cassie's father passed away on April 12, 1928 in Lebanon, MO. He was laid to rest next to his grandson, Bobbie. Just a few months later tragedy visited the family again. Cassie was riding in an open top car, which stopped suddenly, and she was thrown from the car and mortally injured. Cassie's Mama quickly left her home in Missouri and traveled to be with the family. Ottilla later said that she was glad that Cassie's Daddy, Thomas, didn't know she had died as he had passed a few months earlier, because he would have been heart broken to have lost her. Cassie was laid to rest in Marvel Cemetery outside Durango, CO.
