FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR FORD McGUFFEE
Funeral services were held at the Monticello Baptist church Thursday afternoon for Ford E. McGuffee, member of a prominent Monticello family and only son of former Sheriff J. Z. McGuffee and Mrs. Ida Bass McGuffee.
Mr. McGuffee died at the family home here after a long illness. He spent two years at Sanatorium and had been at home about two years. He was forty-one years old. During his illness he had borne his suffering with patience and fortitude.
His pastor, the Rev. D. O. Horne, was in charge of the services and was assisted by the Rev. L. M. Sharp, pastor of the Kingston Methodist church in Laurel and a former pastor here and by the Rev. J. H. Cameron, pastor of the local Methodist church. Pallbearers were S. F. Magee, W. J. Newton, Frank C. Smith, Charles Edward Branning, Johnnie Miller, W. E. Cooper, L. L. Catt, Dr. G. W. Conn, Edgar Tyrone and O. R. Cross, Jr. Mr. McGuffee was buried in the family plot in the Town cemetery.
Native and life-long resident of Monticello, Mr. McGuffee graduated at the Monticello High School. He formerly worked for some time with Civil Engineers and for some time with the Southern Bell Telephone Company.
He was a Baptist with membership in the local church. On February 11, 1928, he was married to Miss Edna Conn, member of a prominent family. He was a grandson of the late Dr. J. P. Conn, physician and legislator and of the late I. N. Bass, former circuit clerk and treasurer of Lawrence county.
He leaves his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Z. McGuffee of Monticello; six children, Miss Marilyn McGuffee, Ford E. McGuffee, a senior in the Monticello High School; Miss Nancy McGuffee, Miss Virginia McGuffee, James McGuffee and John Pinkney McGuffee, all of Monticello; a sister, Miss Christine McGuffee; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. I. N. Bass, now in her eighty-ninth year; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. J. P. Conn, with other relatives.
The sympathy of friends is extended to his loved ones in their sorrow at his untimely death.
