Howard "Jack" was born Dec. 21, 1915 in Steptoe, WA and had resided in the Marysville area for the past 50 years. He graduated from Garfield High School in Garfield, WA. He was married to Helen (Litzenberger) on July 15, 1940. He worked for Assoc. Sand and Gravel for many years before owning and operating his two grocery stores, Cascade Grocery, now "A & D Market", and the 10th Street Market in Everett, and also Shahan Feed and Tack Store in Clearview, until retiring in 1977. He enjoyed various sports and hunting. He and Helen enjoyed traveling in their motor home and also watching their grandchildren compete in their sports activities and horse show competitions.
He and his wife Helen celebrated 50 years together on July 15, 1990. He also leaves a son and daughter-in-law, H. Keith and Patti Shahan of Marysville; a son, William Neal Shahan of Marysville; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Ballard of Marysville; three sisters, Hazel Dill of Marysville, Dorothy Manicke of Camano Island, and Mildred Davis of Deer Park; five grandchildren; Jordan and Brent Ballard, Beau, Shaun and Sheila Shahan and numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many good friends.
