Daughter of Timothy Brown (1771-1821) and Phoebe Buttrick (1774-1858).

[Obituary from the Progressive Batavian, Friday, March 2, 1894, p. 3, col. 5.]

Mrs. Eliza Brown Bishop, who died the 21st inst., was born in Concord, Mass., in 1808. When she was 2 1/2 years old her parents moved to the town of Le Roy, 1 [?] west of the village. Indians often came to sleep by their fire place in early days. When she was 22 years of age she married Oshea Bishop, and in 1847 they moved from the town of Le Roy to Pavilion Centre where they resided 'till '68 when they came to reside in this village, in the house in which both of them died--he 16 years since. Unto them were born eight children--Mrs. D. Barnett, Mrs. R. E. Perry, of Akron, Mrs. Geo. Gillette, of Pavilion Center, E. L. Bishop, Henry Bishop, of Le Roy, Mrs. Carrie Bucknam, Miss Florence and George Bishop, of Rochester. All but Mrs. Perry attended the funeral held at the home, Rev. D. Clarke officiating.

It is seldom so large a family of children live to bury so aged a parent and to mourn her so truly. She was a "mother in Israel." "Her children rise up and call her blessed." She was a member of the Presbyterian church, for over 68 [60?] years, consistent in daily life and cheerfully viewing her app[.....] to the grave. She suffered a stroke of paralysis only days before her death, and tho' partially w[........] [.....] and weak and suffered in pain, apparently. She retained to the time of her stroke her faculties to a remarkable degree, except, her sight, which was dim. John W[....], of Mumford, sent a cluster of [......], and neighbors gave of their [provisions?] gladly. The interment was at Pavilion Center.
