Sue Hooker, 84, passed away Sunday August 2, 2009 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5101 Hwy 277 South, with Dr. Steve Joiner officiating.
Sue was born November 30, 1924 in Nashville, Arkansas to the late P.A. and Ola Reese Hooker. She moved to Abilene at a very young age. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1941 and from Hardin Simmons University in 1946 earning her master's degree in 1952. She was a teacher at Baird and Temple prior to teaching in the Abilene Independent School District for 32 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ. She was preceeded in death by her parents and several cousins including Reese and Bud Cagle and their families Aunts Della and Clifton Cagle all of Clovis, New Mexico, Mattie and Alfred Hill and Uncle Jim and Nell Reese of Abilene. She was always considered to be a member of the Blaylock family close neighbors in Abilene. She is survived by Annie Blaylock Slauenwhite and Clinton Blaylock; Jim, Slaunwhite, Laura Gauch, Ronnie Blaylock and Jennifer Stanfield. She was an accomplished musician. She sang, played the piano, organ and the violin.
