PROMINENT FARMER DIES
---Thomas Nelson died at his home near Gifford Wednesday, October 29, 1924 at the age of 63 years. He had been sick for some time with cancer of the stomach. He underwent an operation at the Grim-Smith Hospital last November. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mary Nelson, he leaves one daughter, Miss Lula Nelson and one son, Armie Nelson, of Gifford, and one grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Will Buck of LaCrosse and two brothers, Dave and Ike Nelson of Gifford, besides a host of other relatives and friends which were made manifest during his sickness and death. He was one of Adair and Macon county's most prosperous farmers and will be missed by many people. At his last hour he said he was prepared and ready to go. Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Carmel Church Thursday, Oct. 30 at 2:00 o'clock p.m. by Rev. Acree of Kirksville and was attended by a large crowd of sorrowing and sympathizing friends, after which he was laid to rest in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery west of Gifford. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement.
