The Richmond (IN) Item, Wed. Aug. 3, 1898
Oren [sic] Huntington, who founded the Huntington hotel was a native of Massachusetts and he came to Richmond in September 1831. He went to Anderson to reside for a short time, then returned here and engaged in the mercantile business. In 1845 he bought a farm north of the city, and two or three years later sold it to return to the city. He purchased the property where the Huntington hotel now stands of Benjamin Fulghum. The brick house had already been used as an inn, but Huntington remodeled it, and established the first up-to-date hotel in this section. This was a half-century ago.
