Martin V. B. Harrington

At an early hour Sunday morning, Martin V. B. Harrington, a life long resident of Baldwinsville passed away at his home on Syracuse Street.
Mr. Harrington was born In the town of Van Buren in the year of 1840. His parents were Mary Jane Earll and Isiah Harrington of Van Buren, and in this town his life has been spent.
In 1863, he married Calista Crum, daughter of Alexander Crum. One daughter, Amy, was born to that union. His Wife died In 1865 and in 1869, he married Margaret Sample, who was teaching at that time and whose home was in Camllius. N. Y.
From that time until 1898, he was known as one of the most able farmers in the vicinity, and, during, his later years, he never relinquished his activities' on his farm which is located one mile from the village.
Active In interests of the Republican organizations for many years, Mr. Harrington had a wide acquaintance in Onondaga County quickly becoming a power in the Republican party and this leadership he retained throughout his life.
Mr. Harrington served as supervisor from 1890 to 1898. He was named Postmaster of Baldwinsvllle in 1898, serving four years. Then he retired from active business, life but worked in several Republican campaigns after that time.
Mr. Harrington leaves a host of friends In the village and its vicinity. A quiet but unusually strong personality, his even disposition and dependable nature made him loved by all who came in close touch with him. Surviving are his widow: Mrs. Margaret Harrington; three daughters, Mrs. G. S. Northop, Miss Mary Harrington and Lois A. Harrington, all of this village; three grandchildren, Margaret Amy Northrop of Baldwinsvllle and Leslie and Russell Harrington, both of Syracuse; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Hoxg and Mrs. Amelia Haynes of Baldwinsvllle.
Funeral services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. B. I. Ellson, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Burial was made in Riverview cemetery.
