Percy W. Empey, 88, of Central Lake died Tuesday morning November 29, 1983 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City following a long illness. He was born November 24, 1895 in East Jordan the son of John and Elsie (Moore) Empey. He was a life long resident of the Central Lake area and was a farmer for most of his life. He also worked as a maintenance man for the Belvedere Club in Charlevoix for 16 years. He had attended the Central Lake Congregational Church. On July 2, 1965 he married Corene Rushton who survives. Also surviving are one son, Norman of Charleviox; two daughters, Mrs. Luther (Elaine) Hogan of Knightstown, Ind.; Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Oberly of Wyoming, Mi.; one step-son, Elmer Johnson of Central Lake; two step-daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Esther) Dewey of Eastport; Mrs. Lewis (Ardith) Spoelman of Muskegon; one sister, Ethel Kirby of Central Lake; thirty-two grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Wilson in 1963, two sons, Kenneth in 1979, Donald in 1934, one daughter Lorene as an infant, two step-sons, Versile Johnson in 1978, Carl Johnson in 1982, one grandson, Norman Dale II in 1983, two brothers, Chris and Guy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1, 1983 at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of the Mortensen Funeral Home with the Rev. R. E. Derby officiating. Interment will be in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Torch Bay Ambulance.
