Obituary of Ray Scott Painter, The Quill, La Harpe, Ill., March 1974:

"Ray S. Painter, 61, Terre Haute, died at his home at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, (1974) of an apparent heart attack.

"He was born Jan. 31, 1913 at Terre Haute, the son of Joseph and Ida Painter. He married Irene Elder Nov. 14, 1937, at Palmyra, Mo.; she died in 1965.

"He was a retired farmer in the Terre Haute area and a member of the United Methodist church in Terre Haute. In 1948, he won the Preliminary Grand American Trapshoot at Vandalia, Ohio.

"Surviving are three daughters, Diana McKinnon and Betty Painter, both of Terre Haute, Jean Dougherty, Palatine, Ill., two sons, Joseph, Yorkville, Ill., and James, Terre Haute; two sisters, Ruby Burkhart, La Harpe, and Blanche Lovitt, Terre Haute; and three grandchildren.

"Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Banks & Beals funeral home with Rev. Fred Reiner in charge. Burial was in Terre Haute Cemetery."
