Geraldine Rose "Geri" Michels

Geraldine Rose "Geri" Michels, 86, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 15, 2010, at Maple Heights Nursing Home where she had been a resident a couple of months. She previously had made her home with her daughter, June in Whiting, Kansas for a couple of years, and her granddaughter, Nadine for a year.

Geri was one of six children of William and Thelma Roark Lytton, was born February 1, 1924, at Agency, Missouri.

She grew up at Agency and attended schools there, later graduating from high school. In 1949, she worked as an inventory clerk a few years in Colorado. She later worked for St. Joseph Travel and Transport. She operated a ceramic shop and sold Avon products out of her home. Mrs. Michels was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #5210, of Hiawatha. She and her husband traveled extensively.

She married Noal Gilbert Michels, November of 1944, at Fresno, California where he was stationed during the service. They lived near Hiawatha, Kansas, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Colorado, before returning to Hiawatha in the late 1970's. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1976.

Besides her husband, Geri was also preceded in death by her parents; three children in infancy; a grandson Donald Aylesworth, a brother, Bob, and a sister, Dixie.

Survivors include a daughter, June Aylesworth of Whiting, Kansas; two brothers, Ronny Lytton of St. Joseph, Missouri; Donny Lytton of Austin, Texas; a sister, Betty Crossfield of St. Joseph, Missouri; a granddaughter, Nadine Aylesworth of Topeka, Kansas; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Chaplain Don Goatley, of NEK Multi-County Hospice will officiate. Friends may sign the register book at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
