Lowell Fay "Buck" Hazelton, 74, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Montezuma, to Thomas Jefferson "TJ" and Vera Viola Vath Hazelton.

Mr. Hazelton had been a resident of Garden City since 1973. He farmed full-time in Finney and Gray counties after 40 years with the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring in 1998 as district superintendent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

On April 26, 1958, he married Carley Avon Barber in Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Kerry Lynn Sheetz of Greeley, Colo., and Leslie Faye Williams of Castle Rock, Colo.; a son, Kevin Dell Hazelton of Salina; a brother, Jeff Hazelton of Liberal; four sisters, Jo Hazelton of Pittsburg, Pa., Laree Villers of Westcliffe, Colo., Lavon Arbogast of Wichita, and Ida Hazelton of Las Vegas, N.M.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Thayne Lee, Lloyd Rex, Michael and Irwin Jack Hazelton; and a sister, Helen Dunning.

A memorial service was at First Baptist Church in Garden City.
