Daniel and his brother Ira, who was six years older, both mustered in to the Sixth Co., 1st battalion NY sharpshooters, Sept 13, 1862 to serve three years. Ira was killed at Fort Hell, VA. 22 June of 1864. Daniel was captured at Weldon Railroad, VA Aug. 19, 1864. He served nine months at Salisbury Prison, Salisbury, N.C. and was released 2 Mar 1865 at N.E. Bridge, N.C. He was mustered out 7 July 1865 at Rochester, N.Y. Daniel filed for invalid status 16 Aug. 1889 in MI & died 26 June 1911. Daniel's father, Lorenzo, also served in the Civil War in the cavalry.

Information from Tyler: Not only was he a Civil War Veteran, and Village Marshal of Hartford 1892-1896 but later became a Van Buren County Sheriff's Deputy, and later still became the Superintendent of the Military War Veterans Museum in Lansing.
