Jacob Fain was twenty-two and Elamanda Boyd was about nineteen when they married
on September 11, 1869 in Patrick County, Virginia.

The 1870 census revealed Jacob was a farmer and they were living in Dan River,
Patrick County, Virginia. Household members: Jacob W. Fain (23) and Elly M.
(19). Jacob's parents lived on one side and his grandparents lived two doors
away on the other side.

The 1880 census revealed household members: W. J. Fain (31), Amanda (28),
William H. (9), James (7), Nancy (6), Abram S. (4), Sally Ann (3) and Rosa (1).

W. Fain (52), William H. (27), James F. (26), Sallie Ann (21), Carrie (18),
Jacob L. (15), Chas R. (11), Lou E. (5) and cousin, Mindie (22).

Jacob was fifty-eight when he married Lydia Vipperman on September 11, 1905.

Lydia died sometime before the 1910 census.

The 1910 census revealed Jacob, a widower, lived with three of his children and
his son, William was the head of the house. Household members: J. W. Fain (64),
W. H. (38), Lee (21) and Eller (14). His son Abram lived next door.

Jacob lived to about age 98.
