William was the son of James Addison Keathley and Nancy Jane Asberry.

William Tyler Keathley was born near Annapolis, Missouri, August 3, 1870, the oldest of nine children born to James Addison and Nancy Asberry Keathley.

He was united in marriage to Martha Evaline Lewis on February 19, 1892 in Ironton, but not without a hitch. After the young couple arrived at the county seat to be married, they were told they would need Martha's father's permission, because she was not of age. So young William rode back to Annapolis (about 20 miles), obtained the signature of Martha's father, and rode back to Ironton where the wedding finally took place.

Thirteen children were born to the couple, two dying in infancy.

When their tenth child Herschel was still a toddler, Tyler, as he was known by his friends, was offered a job as overseer of the Iron County poor farm. The family loaded their belongings onto two wagons, and went north to begin their new life. Tyler also served as a judge of the County Court.

William Tyler Keathley was well known as a man of high principles. He was quiet, and had a wonderful sense of humor. His children remembered him as a strict but very loving father. He died at his home in Russellville on June 18, 1953. His beloved wife died two years later. -Thank you Judy.
