SHOT & KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY
On 12-12-77 Trooper Presbury stopped a car @ Rt. 3, 1/3 of a mile south of Md. Rt. 176. He called for backup. Responding backup officers found Trooper Presbury on the roadway. He had been shot 4 times with a .45 caliber weapon. Trooper Presbury fought for his life for five days before succumbing to his wounds. The suspect was apprehended and sentenced to life + 20 years.
Trooper Presbury is survived by his wife and young son. The section of highway where he was killed is named in his honor as the Trooper Gregg A. Presbury Memorial Highway. Rt. 3 is now part of I97 in Maryland.
