Brother of Julia Ann, Find A Grave Memorial# 53801025

His family as listed on the 1850 US Census, Milford Township, Knox County, Ohio:
Archer Oliver 41 abt 1809 Male Virginia
Archer Harriett 31 abt 1819 Female Virginia
Archer Benjn 13 abt 1837 Male Virginia
Archer William 11 abt 1839 Male Virginia
Archer George W 10 abt 1840 Male Virginia
Archer Mary L 6 abt 1844 Female Ohio
Archer Van S 4 abt 1846 Male Ohio

From an old cemetery survey, his stone noted he was the son of "O and M"; this must have been an erroneous reading of "H" (Harriett) as "M."

His middle name may have been "Simmons" instead of "Simmon." "Simmon" is the reading from an old survey. A Revolutionary War patriot is buried in the Simmons Cemetery (Simmons Road, Bennington Township, Licking County, Ohio, Find A Grave Memorial# 55814905), about ten miles away, named Van Simmons, Sr. In that same cemetery is Van Simmons, Jr. and another male with the same name. This soldier may have been young Van S. Archer's namesake, perhaps a relative.
