Mrs. J. H. Brown Dies Suddenly At Shelly
Mrs. J. H. Brown died at her home near Shelly last Thursday night. She had been in failing health for the past year, but had seemed better and ate her supper the night of her death in the best of spirits. Soon there after she died suddenly, heart failure being the immediate cause of her passing.
Mrs. Brown, whose maiden name was Alice Croswell, would have been 59 years old next Christmas. She was the beloved wife of Capt. J. H. Brown and besides the bereaved husband leaves three sorrowing children: Ira H. and N. B. Brown, both of this county, and Mrs. Ethel Peterson, of Roanoke, Va.
Two sisters and one brother also survive: Mrs. J. E. Linden, Mrs. L. M. Croswell and Mr. J. E. Croswell, all of Gloucester County.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at Providence church, conducted by Rev. R. A. Folkes and Rev. H. L. Corr.
The active pallbearers were J. E. Minor, James Gardner, Charles Williams, S. D. Pointer, Preston Williams and Billy Hogg. The honorary pallbearers were William, Herbert and John Haynes, Otis Brown, Natus Oliver, Garrett and Marshall Croswell, all nephews of the deceased, and Ben and Joe Oliver, close friends.
