Moses Howe was the son of Capt. Artemus and Abigail Howe of Bolton, MA. His father was in command of a company of Minutemen at the battle of Lexington and Concord. After this, the family moved before 1777 up to Battleboro, VT, where Moses was a Lieutenant, under his father's command in the South Company of Battleboro Town, of the First (or) Lower Regiment in 1782. In Battleboro, Moses married Anna Mills in about 1787. In 1790, Moses was described as being 5 foot,10 inches tall, broad shoulders with dark hair and eyes and in about this same year, moved to New York and settled with his brothers in Westford, Otsego, New York, in about 1808. By 1810, he is living in Camillus, Onondaga, New York and in 1813 was in Van Buren, Onondaga, New York, on Military lot # 25.

In the matter of proving the last will and testament of Moses How, deceased. Onondaga County, NY; Be it remembered that heretofore upon the petition of Eber Ingalsbe, sole executor named in the last will and testament of Moses How, late of the town of Van Buren, in said county, deceased, for that purpose, to the Surrogate of said county, a citation was duly issued in this matter, which citation with the proofs of service thereof were thereafter duly returned to said Surrogate, and which said petition and citation, with the proofs of service thereof, are now on file in the office of said Surrogate. And thereupon the last will and testament of said Moses How deceased with proofs thereof were produced and are as follows, viz:
In the name of God, Amen; I Moses How of the town of Van Buren, County of Onondaga and State of New York, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Polly How all my money, bonds, notes and accounts that be due me at the time of my decease and also all my personal property that may be mine at the time of my decease excepting and reserving the amount of the following legacies which I hereby direct my Executors or Executrix to pay to the several persons hereinafter mentioned within one year after my decease, that is to say that is to say [sic]:
I direct the sum of twenty five dollars Laura Warner wife of Ira Warner, the further sum of fifty dollars to Anny Warner wife of Ezra Warner, the further sum of fifty dollars to Betsey Hart, wife of Eber[?] Hart, the further sum of fifty dollars to Polly Hart wife of Pardow Hart, the further sum of fifty dollars to Susan Weaver wife of William Weaver, the further sum of fifty dollars to Parcy[?] Nichols wife of Browning Nichols, the further sum of fifty dollars to the heirs of Sally Wild to wit: Moses Wild & Myra twenty five dollars each they being the children of my daughter Sally Wild and the further sum of fifty dollars to be paid to my son Samuel How, which said several legacies or sums of money I will and order shall be paid within one year after my decease as aforesaid and lastly, I hereby appoint Eber Ingalsbie my sole executor of this last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of March 1843.

Whereas, Eber Ingalsbe, sole executor named in a certain instrument in writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Moses How, late of the town of Van Buren in the county of Onondaga and state of New York, deceased, hath this day made application to the surrogate of our county of Onondaga, to have said Instrument in writing proved and recorded as a will of personal estate: you are therefore hereby cited to appear before the said surrogate at his office in the city of Syracuse, in the said county of Onondaga, on the twenty-eighth day of May next, at ten o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to attend to the probate of said will.
Given under the hand and seal of office of our said surrogate at Syracuse, In said county of Onondaga, this thirteenth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine.
