Edward Yarbrough(1946 - 2010)
Edward C. Yarbrough, age 64, of Jasper died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday (June 19, 2010) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper from complications of MDS.
He was born on June 3, 1946, in Jasper, Ind., to Charles (Chick) W. and Mary Helen (Rottet) Yarbrough. He was married to Judy A. Hilgman on May 25, 1968.
He graduated from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., in 1968 and received his Masters Degree from the University of Evansville.
Ed retired from teaching at Jasper High School in 2005 where he taught and coached Basketball, Tennis and Football.
He also managed the Jasper Municipal Golf Course and the Jasper Swimming Pool for several years.
He was inducted into the Indiana Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994. He was the recipient of the Indiana Tennis Family of the Year 1989.
He is the all-time winningest high school Tennis coach in the state of Indiana with a total of 900 wins.
He coached the Jasper State Tennis Champion in 1999 and 2000 also served as the President of the Tennis Coach Association. He was awarded the National Girl Tennis Coach of the Year in 2007.
Ed Yarbrough was the creator of one of the largest summer camps in the Midwest in Indiana averaging more than 300 kids.
He also coached the Jasper Basketball 1989 Sectional Champions, and he coached 12 different high school tennis teams to the state finals.
He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, the Indiana State Teachers Association and the United States Professional Tennis Association.
Ed was currently working at H&H Auto Sales in Jasper.
Surviving are his wife, Judy; daughter, Mrs. Dee Jay (Keri Ann) Ballard, Jasper, Ind.; son, Scott Yarbrough and his spouse, Heather, Jasper, Ind.; 4 granddaughters; 1 sister, Mary Ann Watkins, Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services for Ed Yarbrough will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday (June 23, 2010) at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (June 22, 2010) at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper Tennis Patrons for the purpose of a new indoor Tennis facility.
