Richmond Buford "Banty" Reeves, age 96 years, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. at the Barren County Health Center after a long and heroic battle following a stroke.

Mr. Reeves was born in Wiggins, Mississippi on July 26, 1908, the son of the late Richmond B. Reeves and Nancy Hall Reeves. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alma Young Reeves, one son, Paul Reeves, one granddaughter, Kimberly Stearly, two sons-in-law, Bob Shaul and Doug Coffey, one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Holt, and two brothers and four sisters: Joe and Herndon Reeves; Dimple Yates, Virginia Combest, Anna Lee Powell, and Mary Morris.

Mr. Reeves was employed by Taylor County RECC for many years. He farmed all his life in addition to holding other jobs including a mail carrier and Adair County school bus driver. He was a much-loved member of the Ozark community and was treasured by his friends and family. He was known far and wide for his hunting, fishing and trapping skills, his love of the outdoors and helping others. He was a long-standing member of the Shiloh Christian Church.

He is survived by five sons, Earl Holt of Oklahoma; Glenn Reeves and his wife, Judy, of Glasgow; Louis Reeves and his wife, Nancy, of Columbia; Danny Reeves of Florida; Dennis Reeves and his wife, Renee, of Columbia; three daughters, Phyllis Reeves of Columbia, Mary Coffey of Glasgow, and Carol Shaul of Jackson, TN; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Addie Mae Hendrickson of Florida, Jessie Aaron of Columbia; one sister-in-law, Clarice White of Columbia and two special caregivers, Lillie Coomer and Donna Karnes.

Funeral services for Richmond Buford "Banty" Reeves were held Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Christian Church with Bro. Raymond Martin, Bro. Richie Curtis, and Bro. Jimmie Knifley officiating. Burial in the Shiloh Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Steve Conover, Gary Cox, Ron Reeves, Terry Pickett, David Shaul, Joe Reeves, Eric Reeves, and Shannon Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers were: Paul Woody Bryant, Walt Grider, Dr. A.J. Hendrickson, Dr. Phil Aaron, James Green, Bruce Wilson, Huston Price, Junius Bryant, Owen Pollard, Paul McQueary, John David McQueary, A.Z. Burris, Richard Phelps, and Bobby Giles.
