Born to Daniel Jr and Elizabeth Corey Nutting in Groton, Ma. He was a Revolutionary War soldier. Enlisted on April 25, 1775, age 16, after marching with the Groton Minutemen to Lexington in response to "The Alarm" on April 19. In May, Abel was inducted as a Private in Capt. Asa Lawrence's Massachusetts 10th of Col. Prescott's regiment. He fought at Bunker Hill where his brother, Daniel III, was wounded.
