He was born to Frederic and Martha Marcus Jaecke on February 27, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1948 at the age of seventeen, served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was wounded in July 1950 when half of his unit was killed, he received the Purple Heart. Also during his career, he received two Bronze Stars and five Good Conduct Medals. He served from 1948-1971 and retired as Sergeant First Class.
Married the love of his life, Louise Alene (Sally) Mangum, on September 20, 1968. He also worked for twenty-three years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler. He and Sally worked as school crossing guards for many years which they both loved. He was a member of Eagles Arie 67, a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the 24th Infantry Division Association.
He is survived by his children Marsha (Rich) Fisco, Marjorie Powers, Dale (Kathy), Janet Mariano, Carol Denny, Michael (Alexandra), Billie Jo (Dave) Petersen, sister, Martha Kassman, seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special friend and companion Jackie Hendon and his precious dogs, Shy and Gigi. Preceded in death by both parents, his wife Sally, brother, Jack, and sister, Daisy Herrman.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South). A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Veteran's Memorial Park at Camp Williams.
