Jesse Dennis "J.D." Bailey, 68, of Arnett, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 23, 1937, at Oceana, a son of the late Truman D. and Ruth Elkins Bailey.
He was an Army veteran and a member of the Coal River Fire Department for several years, and a lifetime construction worker. He was a resident of Arnett since 1962.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Wayne Bailey.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann Daniel Bailey; daughters and son, Dawn Ballard and husband, Tommy, of Cove Creek and Greg Bailey and wife, Kristle, and Tracy Bailey, all of Arnett; grandchildren, Timothy Bailey, Ryan Ballard, Rita Ballard, Kurtis Miller, April Ballard Persinger and Tomi Sue Ballard; a sister, Janice Wilson and husband, Sam, of Big Stone Gap, Va.; a brother, Richard Bailey and wife, Sue, of Laura Bloomery, Tenn.; a very special cousin, Judy Bailey Lester and husband, Denny; five nephews and two nieces; several great-nieces, nephews and several cousins; and aunt and uncles, Eula Bailey, Ulvert Elkins and Raymond Elkins.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Arnett Chapel with the Rev. Ed Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Daniel Family Cemetery, Cove Creek, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 4326, Midway.
Visitation will be one hour before service Monday at the church.
