Mary, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Apperson, was born in Coles county, Illinois, Aug. 12, 1836. She joined the M. E. church when very young and lived a consistent member thereof till 1863. The first of December, 1857, she was married to Dr. C. H. Brunk and came to Windsor to live. In April, 1863, under the ministry of Rev. G. W. Montgomery, she united with the C. P. church at Windsor. In this church her place was always filled when it was possible to do so. Her every day walk and faithfulness in duty evinced the sincerity of her faith. She was a faithful, earnest teacher in the Sunday school and will be sorely missed there. Her readiness to do and suffer for the Master were characteristics in her religious life and she was ready and willing to respond to the claims of charity and benevolence. Her life among those with whom she has so long lived speaks for itself. To her and the doctor were born two children, One, little Willie, died, when only about three months old. The other, Carrie B., is the wife of Dr. E. M. Scott of Sullivan, whom most of the friends know quite well. Mrs. Brunk leaves a bereaved husband, one daughter, two grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Gardner of Gays, one brother, W. W. Apperson of New Kirk, Okla., and many other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Her health had been declining for 18 months or more from a complication of disease, which about last October developed symptoms of dropsy, which finally did its work, and she died May 8. The funeral takes place from the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W. W. M. Barber has charge, assisted by Rev. A. G. Bergen of Mattoon. Windsor Gazette - 10 May 1900
