I visited the home of Major Crow in Honolulu in 1960. He was on a camping trip with his sons at the time, I was told by his wife. My mother-in-law was his first cousin.

James “Wilburn” Crow, 84, former artillery unit leader who led a 21-gun salute on the grounds of Iolani Palace during the celebration ceremonies of the Territory of Hawaii joining the United States, died Dec. 26 in Yreka, Calif. Wilburn, a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel who served during World War II and the Korean War, received many medals including the Bronze Star, Croix de Guerre and the Republic of Korea’s Presidential Unit Citation. Born in Ada, Okla.

Wilburn, a retired U.S. Army Lt. Born in Ada, Okla., he is survived by wife Cora V.; sons Lynn A. and Jerry O.; stepson Dennis Valencia; and four grandchildren. Services to be held on the mainland. Inurnment: 1 p.m. Friday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl.
