Mae was the daughter of William L. Robinson and Notie Hamilton, both natives of Tennessee. Mae's siblings included William Clay, John W., Herbert S., Alma, Luther, Louis Edward, Lola and Lela. By 1920, the family had moved to Tranquility, Fresno County, California, where soon Mae met John Genik, a Canadian native from Winnipeg with Ukrainian ancestry. They were married in 1922. A daughter, Edith, was born in 1924. While John was busy farming and working for the James Irrigation District, retiring in 1966, and then active in San Joaquin city affairs serving as Mayor and Councilman, Mae worked as the local telephone operator. After John's death in 1971, Mae moved to Aptos, California to be near her daughter, Edith, and grandchildren. Mae lived a very long life of 97 years surrounded by a loving family and friends.
