Melvin David Herr, 78 of Denton passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Denton Regional Medical Center.He was born May 3, 1932 in Muenster to Frank Fred Herr and Ida Mae Roberg Herr.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Lee Mages on August 25, 1956 in Gainesville, and later married Elaine Welch on May 5, 1984 in Denton. She preceded him in death. He was an Insurance Agent for Prudential Insurance Co. and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knight of Columbus.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors, with Rosary being said at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Victor Cruz officiating. Burial will follow at Sanger Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Herr, Michael Herr, Tyrel Johnson, Kyle Earhart, Pam Herr, and Justin Herr.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Herr of Gladewater, Kathy Earhart and Randy Earhart of Oklahoma City, Janice Forsberg and Arne of Bellingham WA, Pam Herr of Oklahoma City; step-daughter, Marilyn Mitchell of Denton; son, Michael Herr and Kim of Lathrop CA, David Herr and Jude Herr of Boulder CO; step-son, Charles Mitchell of Fort Worth; sisters, Della Walterscheid of Muenster, Joanie Price and Jim of Denton; brothers, Ronnie Herr and Alma of Gainesville, Tommy Herr and Virgilla of Muenster, Charlie Herr and Cheryl of La Quinta CA; 9 grandchildren, Amanda and Kyle Earhart, Tyrel, Taryn, Torye Johnson, Kayla and Justin Herr, Andrew Mitchell and Nicole Lafranchise and Louise; 2 great grandchildren, Kendall and Perry.
