GONE TO HER REST.
Mrs. Boykin Has Fallen On Sweet Sleep.

Once again has the grim Death Angel visited our midst and plucked a bright jewel. Once again have fond and loving hearts been saddened by the inscrutable dispensations of the all-wise and ever-merciful Creator. He Who doeth all things well because they are done after the counsel of His own will. Who maketh all things work together for good to them that love God; to them that are called according to His purpose.
Mrs. Athalia Antoinette Boykin, the beloved wife of Mr. James W. Boykin, died at their home on Longview road on Thursday afternoon of last week, of heart failure. She had been in feeble health for sometime, and had, only a few days previous, had a similar attack to the one of which she died while attending preaching service at the Baptist church here, but it was thought that she was regaining her health and would soon be well again, consequently her death was a great shock to the family and their friends.
Mrs. Boykin was the daughter of Isaac and Susan Johnson. She was born in Harris county, Georgia, July 16, 1839, and was married to Mr. Boykin, November 29, 1860. She lived the life of a true Christian, being a devout member of the Baptist church, her membership being at Hatchechubbee. She was a kind and loving wife and a fond mother, and how she will be missed from the family circle only those of that circle will know.
She leaves, to mourn her death, her husband, Mr. James W. Boykin, five sons, Messrs. W. J., S. R., J. G., [L.] H. and E. J. Boykin, and one daughter, Mrs. W. H. Tucker, all of whom have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their hour of bereavement.
The funeral took place at the cemetery here Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Rev. J. W. Hamner conducted the service. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. M. Brannon, I. C. Evans, S. H. Pitts, J. C. Chadwick, J. L. Henry and W. A. Bellamy, and the remains of the deceased lady were followed to their last resting place by a large number of people.
May the bereaved ones, who will so sadly miss her, find comfort and consolation in the testimony she left behind – that she dreaded not death, that she was ready to go; and may the Comforter of the Holy Scriptures come into their midst and dwell among them, fill the aching hearts that her departure has left, with His blessings and mercies and peace. For He is the only Comfort, the only Hope, the only Salvation for the storm-tossed soul. But He is sufficient in every time of need, and He and only He is able to bring that peace which passeth understanding. Though they may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, upheld by His righteous, omnipotent hand, they may be enabled to say, The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

DEATH OF MRS. BOYKIN
Sad Demise of an Estimable Woman at Seale

Seale, Ala. Sept. 3 -- (Special) -- Our people suffered quite a painful shock, when on yesterday the announcement was made of the sudden death of Mrs. A. A. Boykin, wife of Mr. James W. Boykin, Sr., of this place. This sad event occurred at the family home on the Longview road, about a mile from Seale, on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 2 o'clock.
Mrs. Boykin had been in delicate health for some weeks, and had but recently returned to her home after a visit to her children in Seale. She had suffered with weakness of the heart and threatened paralysis, and her death was not unexpected.
Returning to her room from walking about the house, she laid down on her bed-- those standing near hearing her make a peculiar gasping sound, hastened to her side, when to their grief, they found that the spirit had departed.
The deceased was a most estimable lady, of gentle manner and influence, loved and respected by all who knew her. A tender wife and mother, a life long Christian, a kind, true, neighbor and friend, she will be sadly missed, not only in her bereaved family, but by all she came in contact with. She was about sixty years of age and was Miss A. A. Johnson before her marriage to Mr. James W. Boykin, and has lived in Russell county many years. Besides a sorrowing husband, she leaves the following children: Hon. W. J. Boykin, senator from Lee and Russell counties; Mr. S. R. Boykin, United States postal clerk from Columbus to Searight; Messrs. I. G. and Luke Boykin, of Glennville, Ala., Mr. Ed. Boykin, Mrs. Effie Tucker, wife of Editor W. H. Tucker, of the Russell Register. The funeral will take place at Seale, on the arrival of the train this evening from Columbus.
Mrs. Boykin was a member of the Baptist church.
