Named for his aunt's (mother's sister) husband, William Travers of St. Augustine, FL. He died of yellow fever.

Info from his mother to a family member "My two year old son, William Travers Reid, died soon after Gov. Reid and is buried in Tolomato Cemetery (Old Catholic Cemetery) in St. Augustine, next to William Travers, who died in 1840. My mother, Mary Smith, is also buried there".
