This was my great-grandfather's brother. His mother's name was Caroline LYTES and that is the name that is on his death certificate. The Hayes family lived near them in Hollow Creek township in SC

He lived in Morrilton's West End community in the area where my great-grandfather lived but was killed in an unfortunate buggy accident. His first wife (my cousin Cora) was from South Carolina.

My great-great grandmother Caroline lived in the house with my great-grandfather Frank Thornton and I think Aunt Lizzie may have lived there awhile. Uncle Burr's daughter also was enumerated at his house in one of the censuses.

Uncle Burr's second wife was Lucy Davenport who coincidentally was closely related to a Ponds family member. Her grandson Arthur Nash married Estelle Ponds, my grandfather's sister. Arthur's mother was Catherine Davis Nash.

My great-grandfather was Frank Columbus Thornton. I was ten years old when he died. His other brother was Green William Thornton. I knew Uncle Green and Aunt Hattie Boozer Thornton. They practically owned the block they lived on and I spent a lot of time at their house when I was little. They didn't have any surviving children, but they kind of watched other people's children. They had a farm in the county and what they called a "truck farm" next to their house where they had a barn, a bull, and a watermelon patch. I remember being afraid to even walk on the outside of the fence when the bull was in the pasture. Uncle Green said the bull kept people from stealing his watermelons.

I have death certificates for Uncle Burrell and Uncle Green but can't find one for Grandpa Frank who died when I was 10 years old in 1947. I had turned ten the March before he died. He still has two children living - the children of his second marriage to Grandma Mable Brame Thornton. His first wife Margaret Smith, was my great-grandmother. She died in 1921. He and Grandma Margaret had four daughters - one of them was my grandmother, Mary. He and Grandma Mabel had one daughter and four sons and there are lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren - mostly from Aunt Carlene Thornton Stricklen's family .

As a matter of fact one of my Stricklen cousin's had a professional genealogist research part of the history before she held a reunion in Tennessee one year. Our info was kind of merged. I have about 200 pages of Thornton history that was shared with the Conway County Genealogical Society in their second [email protected]
