Betty was born "Bessie Brown" in 1903 in Asbury Park, NJ. As the years went on, she changed Bessie to Betty. She was married 4 times. Her first marriage lasted only a few months. She gave birth to a stillborn baby she called Ethel. There are no marriage or birth records for this marriage. She then married Joseph McTague and had two children: Mildred Jane and William Francis. Joe died of heart disease in 1948. Her next husband, Lawrence Wheeler, was a bachelor. They had no children. Larry committed suicide in 1964. In 1967, she married Monroe Boyce. He died of prostate cancer in 1982. Betty lived to be 80 years old. She battled kidney disease and was 5 years a dialysis patient until her death.

She was survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred J. and Nicholas W. Amatelli, her son and daughter-in-law, William F. Sr. and Elaine McTague; her grandchildren Elizabeth Amatelli, Stephen L. Amatelli (deceased), Dee McTague, Sally Amatelli Millaway, William McTague, Jr., Sean McTague, and Andrew McTague; her great grandchildren (at the time of her death) Michael P. Costello (son of Elizabeth Amatelli) and Samantha Anne Luipersbeck (daughter of Dee McTague). Her Great grandchildren after her death: Colleen Costello, Eric Luipersbeck, Nicole McTague, Kathryn Costello, Shannon Costello, Collin McTague, Andrew McTague, Emily Millaway, Gregory Millaway, Kaitlyn McTague and Kelly McTague.
